About Us
OUR FOUNDER
Meet Angela
Angela's childhood interest in flowers and plants grew into decades of backyard gardening in Sacramento’s USDA Zone 9b/Sunset Zone 14. Her intense interest in all things botanical culminated in degrees from UC Davis in Environmental Horticulture & Urban Forestry and from American River College in Ornamental Horticulture.
In addition to being a mom, she enjoys puttering in her garden, snuggling with her pups, fighting fascism, and traveling to misty climes.
OUR Manager
Meet Suzi
Suzi has a background in horticulture, landscaping and the greenhouse industry, and is an avid home gardener, and a mom.
OUR SUPERVISOR
Meet Rose
Rose is a gardening enthusiast who fell in love when she picked her first homegrown tomato. Gardening came from a general love of culinary interests and edible endeavors. She’s also keen on honey bees and growing pollinator-friendly plants. Rose earned a degree in horticulture from American River College. She is also an artist, and enjoys teaching gardening- and craft-related classes at the nursery. Rose loves collecting plants and spending time with her dog Bumble.
OUR SALES SPECIALIST/VISUAL MERCHANDISER
Meet Greg
Greg is a longtime Sacramento gardener and backyard chickens expert. In addition to customer service, Greg does visual merchandising at the nursery, as well as planting and staging for some of our commercial clients and local garden tours. Herb and flower planters are a particular interest of Greg’s, and his services are available to private gardening clients
Our History
Our founder, Angela, loves visiting nurseries all up and down the West Coast and beyond. She's a notorious "nursery hopper". Over the years, she started recognizing certain elements that all the cool indie nurseries seemed to have... and also what made each nursery unique. She thought, "Why not Sacramento?!" and set out to open a cool indie nursery... but with her own unique spin, her horticultural chops, an Oak Park setting, and Sacramento gardeners in mind.
Our Vision
The Plant Foundry is a place where the art and science of gardening work together; a place where city living hasn’t forgotten country life. The Plant Foundry recognizes that no matter how close to the urban core one lives– plants, people and wildlife are all part of the same community.
We are committed to sharing our love and knowledge of plants with people at all stages of the gardening journey, from complete beginner to avid gardener. We may be trained horticulturists with demanding standards, but we haven’t forgotten the simple joy of sprouting our first sunflower in a Dixie cup. Or keeping our first apartment patio plant alive. Or sharing a laugh and a cutting or two with a neighbor over the back fence.
Gardening means different things to different people. For some, it’s about the satisfaction of doing good, hard, sweaty work. For others, “to garden” means parking it in a lounge chair while lifting nothing but a book and a beverage.
At times, the garden is a place of community and celebration. It’s also a place where our cats lounge and our dogs reign supreme; or maybe the other way around. At The Plant Foundry, we want to share the joy gardening brings to us, and we want to help you find bliss in your own garden.
